One of the key challenges of selling over the telephone is that you are judged purely by your voice and the words you use. Your listener cannot see you and make any judgments on your appearance or personality. You therefore may be the best dressed sales person in the Land but if your word pronunciation is below par then you will unfortunately be judged in a negative way.
Record your sales presentations and listen to your articulation. Listen for any mumbles, slurred words, wrongly pronounced words. Listen for the passion in your voice. If you have delivered your sales presentation hundreds of times it is often likely that you may have lost your passion in your voice – remember your biggest sales tool when selling over the phone is your voice, so use it to its maximum potential.
If you suffer from “lazy articulation” you will be perceived in the same light. Try adding unnecessary commas or semicolons in your presentation which cause you to pause between words and emphasise their delivery. The trick is to keep people listening, to sound interesting. A dull, monotone delivery will have you perceived in exactly that way.
