Our Web and SEO guys, Internet Marketing Ltd, revealed a real clanger to us this week. Their MD took a call from a company that went pretty much like this:
“Hi, I’m John from Web (full name removed), I have worked with many companies of various sizes and assisted with their Online Marketing strategy in order to grow their businesses. I was looking at your site which I really like by the way – but there are definitely some things we could do to help it rank naturally much better for a wider range of important search phrases, and with that in mind I wondered if you would like a free SEO audit looking at the meta-data, the keyword density and a detailed analysis of the back-link profile. That should give you an excellent insight into how your site is performing, and allow us to develop a plan for getting your site some much better search positions. The audit is free and with no obligation.”
Now bare in mind reader that “Internet Marketing” are SEO specialists, are at the top of Google for all of the keyphrases they want to be AND have our website on page 1 of Google for all of the keyphrases we want to be! So here was the MD’s response.
“Thanks John, what did you like about our site?”
John’s response: “Erm…. yeah it looked really fresh and clean.”
The MD’s response: “John are you looking at our site now?”
John’s response: “No sorry I’m not”
The MD’s response: “John have you even looked at our site?”
John’s response: “Yes of course.”
The MD’s response: “Ok, what do we do?”
John’s response: “…… let me see.. ”
Call ends – John realised he had called a company called “Internet Marketing” and obviously hadn’t even listened to the MD’s phone answering message!
A note to all – work smart and get results. As an aside, Internet Marketing now offer a “free SEO audit looking at the meta-data, the keyword density and a detailed analysis of the back-link profile.” – you should take them up on it, they really are very good!
